I don't think Aragorn ever regreted not claiming the Crown when he had the opportunity because he knew that by doing so, he would be playing into Sauron's hand, and making Middle-earth's chance of freeing itself from Sauron even slenderer than it already was. And I think that as much as he loved Arwen, he would never endanger the common good, or stray from the path which he considered his duty to follow in order to gratify his own desires. I Don't think Aragorn had one jot of selfishness in him. After all, as you mentioned, he was raised by Elrond and had Gandalf as a mentor and advisor.
