The scenes in the Prancing Pony are among my favourite in the whole book even though much of it is little changed from the Trotter period. i think Tolkien went to a great deal of trouble to make all his characters consistent in their speech which was why he swapped lines between characters and toned down this particular one.
So you wouldn't have had Aragorn mucking out the pigs when he first came to Rohan eh? LOL! I'd love to read your version.
