At the moment I never seem to post about anything but being too busy. I have applied to reduce my hours at work but can't until they take on someone to cover those hours so there's no let up at present.

One thing I did  manage to do a couple of weeks ago is answer Pieter Collier's questions for an interview with the Tolkien Library. Talking about myself like this was a very strange experience and I'm still a little embarrassed by the whole thing but here it is.

http://www.tolkienlibrary.com/press/1058-interview-elizabeth-m-stephen.php

Fan fic writers may be interested to note I do mention my own  'past' as a fan fiction writer. I confess I did debate about this - as you know, I'm not a fan of all genres of fan fiction -  but it has its place and I wanted to acknowledge the role it can have for more serious study.

Once again, please feel free to pass on the link to any groups that might be interested.

I think you did a marvy job, and I liked the almost "in passing" reference to fanfiction, as if it's a completely normal thing to do. Which it is, in my opinion. *g* It definitely can be a way of more seriously studying a work. I'm always amazed at the new insights I gain every time I start writing a new piece.

I'm really glad that worked for you about the fan fic as that was my intention! I know some will turn up their noses but hopefully not all.

An excellent interview!

Best of luck, too, with getting your hours sorted out so that your life is more how you want it.

Thank you!

Work is actually causing me sleepless nights at the moment which isn't part of the bargain at all.

My sympathies - I know what you mean about the state of eternal business. I know that in reality it's a GOOD thing, but... Phew!!

Yes, I tell myself that being busy is far better than having nothing to do but a breather would be good now and then!

Wonderful interview.

*crossing my fingers that I get my book soon. Hopefully amazon will stock up soon.*

Thank you! I'll really concerned that Amazon just isn't moving on this. Goodness knows how many sales are being lost. I do hope it comes soon. Otherwise you can always cancel and I'll send you one.

I finally finished the 617-page book I've been reading since mid-August. Guess what I get to start reading NOW???

I'm going to come clean with my previous involvement in fanfic, too. When I started out, it was certainly a dirty word, but looking back on it, it's been a really, really valuable apprenticeship.

Apprecticeship is the right word and definitely invaluable. I tend to feel it will come out anyway so best to make a virtue out of what some see as a vice!

Some of my fanlit's mounted on-line, which I don't really mind at all, because it's stuff I was rather proud of, and it was definitely of its time. But not the LOTR fanlit of my early teens. That was definitely in the class of juvenilia!!!

I'm fortunate perhaps that I didn't discover fan fic until my late forties then!
