'The Hobbit' to be two movies

I've just seen this at Theonering.net. http://www.empireonline.com/news/story.asp?NID=24610
So the whole of 'The Hobbit' is going to span the two proposed movies. My first reaction to this news was regret that there would be no reprisal of Viggo as Aragorn [at least, in this context, I hope there won't be]. But, although that is disappointing in itself, I really don't think stretching a book that is half the size of FOTR over two movies is the greatest of ideas. Only time will tell, I guess.

But then again... with the changes they made to the canon, maybe it's best to leave well enough (or poor enough, depending on your point of view about the LOTR movies) alone.
I will miss seeing Viggo as Aragorn, though. *sigh*

One of my favourite characters is Bard who is so obviously a forerunner of Aragorn. I have a feeling he might be turned into the hunk of the movie.
